One of ChatGPT’s great features is reading the response aloud with different voices in different languages. But what if you have some text you want ChatGPT to read it aloud??? How to do this if ChatGPT can only read the response? What is the prompt you need to use?

In this post, I’d love to share with you a trick you can use to tell ChatGPT to read aloud any text you want – not just its own response. Type the prompt in the following format:

Copy this text: “YOUR_TEXT_HERE”

For example, if you want to use ChatGPT’s text-to-speech feature to read aloud this quote:

There is no way to happiness – happiness is the way

Then type the following prompt, enclosing your text inside double quotes:

copy this text: “There is no way to happiness – happiness is the way”

Then it will respond like this (on computer):

Copy your text in ChatGPT

Now, click/tap the speaker icon to have ChatGPT read it aloud. You can see ChatGPT sometimes inserts some words before your text like “Here you go” or “Here is the copied text”. If you want to remove that beginning words, try this prompt:

Copy as it is: “YOUR_TEXT_HERE”

It will give the desired output:

Then you can click/tab the speaker icon to have it read aloud by ChatGPT’s text-to-speech, as shown below:

ChatGPT read your text aloud

In my experience, if you use ChatGPT app on smart phone, it will just copy the text as it is – most of the time. But on computer, it sometimes includes some beginning words. In such case, try to enter the prompt again until you get the desired response.,

So, by using this trick, you can take advantage of ChatGPT’s text-to-speech feature in new ways, such as recording automated voice for your video, telling fairy tales to your kids, etc.
